WordPress And Premium WordPress Templates – Lesson 5
This week’s post is going to focus on WordPress and Premium WordPress Templates. Your template is really your store front, image, or calling card. It is something that people need to recognize when searching for you. When considering a template, you should look for something that, for one, looks good. It doesn’t necessarily need to be drop dead gorgeous, but it needs to look clean and be easily navigable.
You can go online and Google “WordPress Premium Templates” till your heart is content. Covering all of the sites that provide Premium Templates for WordPress or other CMS’s (Content Management Systems) is entirely beyond the scope of this post. When Goggled, I get 18,500,000 choices. So, knock yourself out.
I can mention some of the better ones to give you a start. I’m not trying to influence you here, please understand that. This is really one of the choices that need to be left to you and your personality. However, bookmark these sites and either choose one or use them for a guideline while doing your own research.
- StudioPress.com. Please note that I am an affiliate for this choice of Premium Template!
- WooThemes.com
- Rocket Theme.com
- Theme Forest.net
- ithemes.com
- elegantthemes.com
- Thesis Themes
The list above could go on for days. My suggestion is that you browse the sites, and others that you may find, for several days. Believe me , if your experience is like mine, you will feel like you have been struck by lightning when you find the theme that is for you.
Once you choose a template, you will then download the template to a safe place on your hard drive. Now comes the download of the almost recent version of WordPress!
Once again do yourself a huge favor and download a couple of versions earlier, don’t go for the latest edition. You will have bugs in it that you will not want to deal with.
So if you see that the latest edition is Version 3.0, back-up to version 2.8. That is what I am using now (2.8). So I know for a fact that you will not have any problems with either the software or plug-ins.

Personally I think changing to a premium theme is one factor that helped my site to cross a line where it was stuck.
Very shocked you didn’t mention Thesis with all the mentions about it being the best thing since sliced bread! LOL
Keith´s last blog ..Where Are Your Readers?
Hi Keith,
Not only did your comment escape my notice (I only caught it as I was prepairing for coming lesson 6), so did Thesis. I’m not really a Thesis fan, however, they are indeed a top theme, therefore I have updated my post to reflect the change. Aghhh, you trouble maker you!!!

I am still using a free theme at the moment. I know I will eventually make the transition to a premium one (probably theisis when I get the developers license), but my current theme is serving me pretty well!

Hi Tom,
Glad to see you could make it by today!
I think your site looked great from the day you started your Blog! So if you kick-it up to a thesis thing, you’re going to look awesome!
I always look forward to your content, so good luck with the upgrade.
