Well it’s that time of the year again and I thought I would take literary license and re-print the most popular post I have yet to write. The good news of course is that this year, dear Phil is predicting a quick end to this years winter ….. which is a good thing, because if Phil predicted six more weeks of winter with what we have already gone through this year, he’d be out of a job for sure! It has come to the attention of all those who are dependent on the services of Punxsutawney Phil, that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has stepped in to end his tenure as the future forecaster of the nation’s weather, at least when it comes to six weeks of it.

A robotic stand-in is in the running for the six-week, sixty-five million dollar contract that Phil will have to fore-go, handing the economy one more lost job. Phil reached at his burrow, was reported to have made the comment to William Deeley the he “was treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania”

“It’s very ridiculous” said Deeley, president of The Groundhog Club. Negotiating contracts and Union concessions is not easy at this late hour. Phil was in the final preparations for his annual appearance which takes place on Tuesday February 2, 2010, when notified of the potential changes.

PETA concerned about Phil’s hibernation habits, made no mention of the loss of Phil’s Health Care Benifits that are part of his contract which is especially contentious at this time considering the present health care debate. Phil went on to say to this blogger when reached at his burrow at Gobbler’s Knob that “it does no good to be concerned about my hibernation if I can’t make the rent on the burrow or afford health care. And having held the same position for the last 120 years, I’m just a little too old to be making a “fresh start”.

It also was mentioned by Deeley that “I couldn’t talk to a robot and the robot couldn’t talk groundhogese“!

With Phil’s options limited, it is all but apparent that Phil will have to take up blogging to cover his unexpected short-fall. You can reach phil at his website here.

First, my Social Pals tell me to turn off the way-cool snow effect on my Blog!  Too much of a distraction, they said.  Man ……….. that’s cold!!!  Next, my editor tells me that the natural gas for the month is taken care of.  Next, we have a leak in the gas lines and then a freak snow storm.  Oops!!  That gas leak turns out to be nothing more than the smell of the chemical that warns you that you are about to run out of gas. Seems that the gas company filled the house next door and left the ticket on our door. Long ice-sickle short, we have no gas and the gas company says that they are not running the trucks while it snows.  Now the cat has packed its cat-nip and moved on down the road!  All this action and I have a post to put out.  I’m so cold I can’t even think! The small electric heater is a joke.  I’m climbing back under the blankets and scheme of a way to do-in  Punxsutawney Phil.  Six more weeks of Winter …. indeed!
