The Hard Truth About FeedBurner

I started out this morning on a high note with the finishing of my first plug-in. I have several in construction, but the “StudioPress FeedBurner Subscriber” plug-in is my first ( it’s a replacement for the Genesis E-News And Updates Plug-in that comes with their templates that has never really worked well within WordPress) ……. then I ran into David Risley! This guy, I swear ….. a trip to his website is like a trip to the dentist. David had a short post about the colossal mistakes made by Bloggers and number one on the list was the use of FeedBurner.

To be sure, FeedBurner is USELESS, period. It is just a subscriber service to your content via E-Mail. I guess the reason that I use it is that I really need to build my readership at this point in my development and it looks really good within my template. I guess it appeals to my OCD nature. But as far as a list building service goes, you can’t do a thing with a FeedBurner list. As David points out the price is right though …….. FREE……… you get what you pay for I guess.

Building a list with Aweber or MailChimp is a better bet than banking your future on FeedBurner. I guess we all live and learn.

Now, if you will excuse me I’m off to build a Plug-in for an easy opt-in alternative for either Aweber or Mailchimp. Wish me luck!

The Needle In The Haystack

Needle In A Haystack

It’s a rough day here in the south. Rainy, a little cold …… raw. I’m in to the year-end thing I wrote about a week ago. I’m thinking about and working for next year now. No real organized effort to educate the public. I’m afraid you’ll have to read my past posts. Today ………….. well, today, I’m just thinking out loud.

Very seldom do I take this Blog in a personal direction. But with the end of the year upon us ………. why not.

I was thinking about my readership and the way of the future for myself and well as the Internet marketer and their Blogs. I couldn’t help notice that Frank Kern has a new Blog, maybe website would be a better description. I can remember when I started down this road and heard about Frank Kern taking the world by storm with “List Control” I had to get to know this person, only to find out that he had closed all his Internet marketing sites and was only taking private clients. Great I thought, right when I find the hottest thing in Internet Marketing, he decides to fold and move to the Caribbean (San Diego actually).

I’ve got this uneasy feeling about the big guns coming and going, while I steadily go bow-legged and blind trying to keep up my Blogs. The kings of the Internet always seem to be absent from the Internet some how. I wonder if in the long run that will be my fate.

I like Blogging. I like my Blogs. However, I’m making my monies elsewhere. I really want to be a Blogger. I not so sure that I like the idea of David Risley’s “Hamster Wheel” though. That thought took me in another direction ………. thinking about all the Hamster ……. err, Blogs in the world. What a monster we have created. Everyone wants to be a writer or Blogger as the case my be. With the easy access of the Internet, the whole world now has a voice. The only problem I’m afraid, is not enough readers.

No one reads, everyone writes. Very few prosper.

I like to read. I just can’t find what I am looking for on the Internet. I follow about 70 Blogs for the time being and I can count the ones that I really enjoy reading on both hands. That’s one of the reasons that I try to stick to the technical parts of Blogging as opposed to being a bore with my chatter.

So much noise and not enough readers. With a bazillion Blogs now on the Internet, it’s like trying to find a needle in a haystack …………. or sandbox.

WordPress Secrets – The Anti-Launch

Despite my every effort to provide a smooth product launch for “Bloggers Market WordPress Secrets – Set-up And Installation”, I find myself in Anti-Launch mode. That seems to be one of the buzzwords around the Blogosphere these days; “Anti-Launch”. I”m just glad that David Risley nor Frank Kern is over here reading this and weighting in on my ordeal.

In all their editorial wisdom the editors over here at Bloggers Market have decided that Bloggers Market WordPress Secrets is going mainstream. I never really intended it to go “mainstream”. In other words they want the E-Book to be available to the general public through the major book stores. I never wanted nor intended the E-Book to be available that way.

Bloggers Market WordPress Secrets was always meant to be a little; just a little geekie. If I were to go mainstream I would have to use red arrows in my instructions instead of the normal computer cursor arrow. The reason I did this, is that I wanted my readers to really look closely and “study” my screen shots. And you have to look closely if you are looking for a computer cursor that isn’t moving. Geeks like to do this kinda thing; hunt for arrows and such. The general public and the visually impaired don’t.

There are other things of course like ISBN numbers that have to be assigned and copyright permissions have to be approved and a host other challenges that go with going mainstream. It’s not that I’m against going mainstream it’s just that I don’t have the time right now. The irony of it all is that I’m a Blogger not a writer of Books. I already have a full-time job here at The Bloggers Market Group.

This brings me to my anti-launch. I am going to have to withdraw Bloggers Market WordPress Secrets from this Blog and the Internet until I have cleared all of the hurdles that a writer has to deal with to become published in that Main Stream!

Back to the drawing board, the inkwell and the quill. Oh Joy …………
