Internet Marketing – Lesson 4

In the last line of my last post I mentioned Free traffic. Within that last line I also made mention of targeted traffic. These traffic methods I will deal with in future posts. Suffice it to say that the free traffic will come as a result of what you are doing, and comes to you naturally. The targeted traffic comes to you after you pay for it. I really can’t go into this until you have established your products and are ready for promotion.

This weeks post is about your front-end products and services. It is said, and I agree, that most monies in Blogging are made on the back-end. Indeed, however, you can linkin your front-end to the back.

I’m going to loosely define front-end goods and services for your Blog.

  • Ad Sales
  • Adsense
  • Affiliate Sales
  • Your Own Products

Of course there are several variables on the above, however, this just about sums up the opportunities.

One of the things that you have to watch in my writings is that I usually relate most of my information to my own niche, as most of my writing is done for myself and not for the benefit of my readers. More on that later.

As for the above, I’ve never really been a fan. Again, most income for a Blog is earned on the back-end not the front.

With Ad sales, you have to have a pretty good shot of traffic to justify the cost charged to your customers. There are a number of ways to calculate ad rates and space does not permit me to go into the formulas here. Nor am I an expert in this area. I’ve always been shy of advertisers that would be willing to pay me to advertise on my Blog, yet have a marginal or even a questionable product.

Basically you have the CPC and the CPM methods of calculation for ad cost. CPC is like Adsense in a sense which is better know as “Bloggers Welfare”. Nuff said!

The CPM methods is better known as “Cost Per Mille or Cost Per Thousand Impressions. There are others of course, again space prohibits. Here is a link to Online Advertising that will give you a better run-down.

Next week we’ll look at the back-end of your Blogs revenue opportunities.

    Hey Jeffrey,

Are you back writing here on a regular basis? Good to see you either way.

I see you are doing a series on internet marketing. The best way to get targeted specific traffic is to definitely pay for it like you mentioned although it can be accomplish through free forms as well. It will just take you much longer to get the results but you have to put a lot of content out there in order to make it worth your while.

I guess I’ll have to stop back by to see what else you’ll be sharing.

    Enjoy your week.

      Hi Adrienne,
Oh boy …… you had to come over this week! This is a really long story, and I won’t bore you with the details. But it came to one of those, “you don’t make money Blogging; you just write about it” arguments with someone. I will catch-up to you on Skype one day, you’ll love the story. Oh, by the way I tried to hook-up around Christmas, but I guess you had left town for your Mother’s already!

Any who ……. I came back over to Bloggers Market because the traffic keeps increasing every week and is in the pits …… like deep pits! As you know I have closed both to comments and have only had Bloggers Market open to comments for a couple of weeks now at Carolyn’s urging.

As for this post; when starting out I got to the half way point and got into trouble with it. To provide a post on ad placement and affiliate sales for your front-end takes more than 300 words! More like 30,000 words…….

I thought I would come back and clean-up the copy at a later time. I do this with about 1 in 10 posts. I really have not the time to think through this series the way that I need I’m afraid.

Thanks for coming by and I’ll catch-up to you soon!
