Internet Marketing – Lesson 17

Most of what I write about here at Bloggers Market is really second nature to me now. Once learned, the road-map is pretty easy to follow. However, there are a couple of areas that give me pause. I ran into trouble with this series in the beginning trying to communicate to my readers about display ads as an income stream. To get a really good overview this takes several hundred pages of text involving different companies, styles, coding, proper placement, best SEO and SEM practices, proper pricing, testing; so on and so forth.

I’m in the pickle again with “Shopping Carts”. I hate giving my readers 300 words that leave them as clueless at the end as they were at the beginning. However, I have to cross this path within this series. Sooo…

Most of what you will do within Internet Marketing will be within your own powers to create. Some things that will not will be, display ads of some sorts, SEO, and Shopping Carts.

I’ve been burned to the ground by some really reputable Internet Marketers because of dubious Shopping Carts Services that I am positive that the Marketer had no idea what was happening on the affiliate end of things.

Managing your Online business may take some real effort to manage, but when you have 10′s of thousands to deal with, things can get really dicey. If the Shopping Cart gets is wrong, it will be your name that gets caught in the gears of the machine, especially if it comes to affiliate payouts or refunds.

If I do a simple product that goes for less than a hundred dollars, I usually go with “PayPal” as the payment portal and then handle the refunds myself and avoid dealing with affiliates. 50% of 10 bucks is just not worth the bother and hassle.

However, if you have a product that sells for $1995.00, you are going to have to have a reputable hosted shopping cart or shopping basket service. 50% of that is definitely worth the hassle.

Again, there is no way to cover all of the angles of shopping carts in this post. Here comes the “Due Diligence” thing again!

Here is my list:

Those listed above are the most popular …… and most expensive. However, this is just a starting point. With some advice from Father Google you can find some reputable reviews of shopping carts that should prove enlightening.

Also, be prepared for a killer learning curve. I figure that you will spend a couple of grand just learning the systems here. Good Luck …… you’re going to need it!

  1. Hey Jeff,

Finally, after a long wait and a lot hiatus you have, you’re back and our lesson has now resume. Well, I understand that there are things that are not easily done with shopping carts and I guess it really needs allocated time to deal with it. But, it’s a good thing that you came back to teach us a new lesson about internet marketing.

      Hi there Mr. Conejos,

Thanks for coming back to see me here.

I’m going to try to do a couple of lessons this week to catch-up with things. I’ve got one on up-sells planned and product launch functions.

In July, I’m going to be writing on hard-products and product fulfillment, so stay tuned here, and remember that if you should have any questions just ask.

I think at the end of it all, I’m going to be doing a large post that may test your patience, however, I’m sure it will answer a great deal of questions.

I hope that you are doing well. See you soon! :)

      Hey Mr Pitt!

Nice to see your smiling Gravatar here at Bloggers Market.

If you are new to Internet Marketing, don’t forget to check-out Kajabi. It is not a shopping cart, but does a lot of things that tie into the shopping cart if you can afford it.

Here at Bloggers Market, I try to teach you to do everything on your own. This gives you a great perspective on things as you grow your business and saves a few bucks along the way.

I’m of the feeling that if you launch a project and earn $6000.00 in your first month, then you should know exactly how to do it again by yourself without outside support.

Some of the big guys try to rope you into believing that if you can turn-on a computer then you can make money Online. The reason for saying this is that there are some great tools out there that can do a great deal for you. However, I can’t tell you the level of pain that I have experienced trying to get “Optimize Press” to do it’s thing.

I can remember that I got into a scrape with some video encoding on “Optimize Press” that I thought was going to do me in. I had to rewrite a significant amount of code to get the Plug-in to work with a custom opt-in form and a video that went with it.

I think it took me about 3 or 4 days to work out. Not fun at all (Remember that it has to work cross-platform). However, understanding how all of this works together gave me the edge.

Another example is that this theme that you see here at Bloggers Market is of my own design. Now, you may say that it looks like “Church” by “Studio Press”. Actually that is the theme that I started out with, however, Studio Press discontinued the theme leaving me in a mess as I had branded Bloggers Market on this theme. So I had to write a ton of code to get the thing to look and work like the “Church” theme and work with the Genesis Framework.

This work would have cost me thousands if I had outsourced and whats worse, is that it’s not the money so much as it’s the time you lose. I did the same thing with Jeffrey-Morgan.com.

So when I get an idea for a product, boom, I’m out the door with it, instead of setting on my hands wondering on what to do next when faced with challenges.

Remember Pitt, the shopping cart is just one piece to the puzzle.

Hang-in there man, and I will see you soon. I’ve got some cool things planned for the future here so say tuned!

Thanks for sharing this useful chapter.Internet marketing is the promotion of products and services using the Internet. Lower costs of broadcasting of information and a global audience are its main advantages. This type of marketing also encompasses digital data management and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM), which are widely used in businesses today.

    • Jeffrey says:

      Hi Jacob,

      Thanks for stopping by today!

ECRM is an extreme form of Internet Marketing. Mostly important for those that have a continuing need to build a relationship with a customer that needs continuing products flow and support for those products.

Webhosting can been seen as one such business that would benefit from ECRM.

You do know that you site is down at the moment …… right?

  4. I also prefer PayPal for hassle free system. Got 3 good sites although a little bit expensive, thanks Jeffrey.
