I, like everyone else, have read my share of “self-help” or “motivational” books. I’m a sucker for the how-to-be wealthy books. In all the years of reading, I can vividly remember the best book I ever read about making money and acquiring wealth. It was written by J. Paul Getty and was entitled “How To Be Rich.” After I saw the book in the bookstore, I knew I had to have it. J. Paul Getty was not only one of the richest men in the world during his day, but he was also known for his intelligence.
I knew this was going to be a hot read. I was going to learn how to make a ton of money from this book ……… or so I thought. He truly was an Intelligent man. The book was not about how to make money. It was about how to be rich within yourself and how to lead a rich life. You see, no one can show you how to make money like they do. Life is just a little too fluid for that. J. Paul Getty knew this. He couldn’t show you how to make money like he did. You’re not him. And sure enough, I can’t remember anyone duplicating his success …….. even though you know a million tried.
I was reading a heart wrenching posted comment over at John Chow‘s website about someone who had tried for years to find gainful employment only to come up short and having recently been fired confessed to “being sick of his being to the core” and could John Chow please help him in any way.
While Blogging can provide a select few with a good living and fewer still with true wealth, if it is your intent to pursue Blogging full-time, you need to have your mindset straight. You need to be mentally prepared to take on the task of Blogging as well as have at least a year’s worth of resources available to you if you intend to pursue Blogging full-time. Don’t let the “spin” of the Internet Marketers take you for a ride; because they will if you let them. Be true to yourself, if you are any good at Blogging, the money will take care of itself.
You don’t need Blogging to be rich ……. or happy for that matter.
