We all have the challenges of day-to-day living, where we are unable to cope with the day’s events. I can think of several times in my own life where the wheels have just totally come off my show. Outside of our commitments to others such as an employer or our family, we can for the most part, “limp on down the shoulder on the rim” until we get better. If the event or illness is serious enough, the whole thing grinds to a halt.
When it comes to our Blogs, (and I am speaking to the New Bloggers here) you have to position yourselves so that you operate your Blogs as seamlessly as possible. If you desire to make Blogging a way of life and not just a hobby you will have to make some commitments to making sure that “the show must go on”.
Once you realize that a Blog is interactive and that you have to be up and running 24/7 to remain relevant, you will have to adjust your lifestyle accordingly. The content hopper waits for no one. In a larger sense, once you establish yourself, you will have to consider your lifestyle away from the keyboard carefully.
The top dogs in this “New Media” have their bases covered, by having a sufficient staff on board, so if they should suddenly croak, their Blogs never miss a beat.
If you have a family or an estate to consider, either in the present or future, than you need to consider your long-term plans to accommodate emergencies and to insure stability and value of your Blog.
Going from $8000.00 a month to $1400.00, because you broke your leg in Aspen skiing, would be a total buzz kill.
And how in the world could you enjoy a vacation at the beach, if you are busy worrying about whether things are running smoothly with your Blog!
Being a Blogger should not mean that we are joined at the hip with a laptop wherever we go or whatever circumstances we find ourselves in. Especially at the beach!
